The difference reflects traceable materials with EN 10204 3.1 documentation, application-specific carburizing or nitriding, post-heat-treatment grinding where specified, and 100% outgoing inspection. These controls help reduce wear, excess backlash and unplanned downtime.

Our core advantage is cost-performance and response speed. No — Wolfer is ISO 9001:2015 certified, not ISO 13485. We ship as a component supplier to ISO 13485 OEMs and provide all documentation those OEMs' quality systems require (mill cert, dimensional report, heat-treatment record).
Do you provide material certificates?+
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates ship with every part by default. EN 10204 3.2 (with mill witness) is available on request — typically adds 1 week to lead time.
Can you ship in biocompatible-grade stainless?+
Yes — SUS304, SUS316L, SUS440C, 17-4 PH are routine. We do not perform passivation in-house but the surface finish we ship is pre-qualified for downstream passivation by the customer.

No — Wolfer is not a Class-1 cleanroom facility. We are an ISO 9001 manufacturer that ships parts pre-qualified for downstream cleanroom acceptance: vacuum-degreased, electroless-nickel or hard-anodized surface, sealed in anti-static bag.
Can you supply vacuum-rated bellows couplings?+
Yes. Welded SUS304 or SUS316L bellows, vacuum-tested to 10⁻⁶ Pa in-house before shipment, individually sealed.
Do you offer ISO 14644 packaging?+
Standard packaging is vacuum-degreased + sealed anti-static bag — clean enough for most semiconductor-OEM incoming QC. ISO 14644-compatible packaging (specific glove / wipe procedures) is available on request, adds ~1 week to lead time.

We focus on sprockets, but for full sprocket-and-chain sets we partner with major Chinese chain manufacturers such as Donghua. Tell us your duty cycle and we will recommend a chain grade.

One. For prototype and low-volume work we have no MOQ — we routinely cut single replacement parts. Our sweet-spot for unit cost is 50–200 pieces per lot.
How fast can you quote a new sprocket / pulley?+
Same day on standard ANSI / HTD parts — we have the cutter library. Custom-profile or non-standard module typically 24 hours.

Two meters in a single piece on our gear grinder. For longer travels we join racks at dowelled pads and grind the assembled face — pitch matching is to ≤ 0.03 mm across the joint.
Can you integrate a torque limiter into the pulley or sprocket?+
Yes — that is roughly half of our torque-limiter business. The limiter sits inside the pulley / sprocket hub, so installation simply replaces the existing transmission element. We need the OEM drawing of the pulley / sprocket the limiter must fit.
How precise is the trip torque?+
±5% of the set value, repeatable across cycles. For one-time precision protection (e.g. dynamometer test stands) we recommend shear-pin units, which are repeatable to ±1% but must be replaced after each trip.

No — harmonic drive flexsplines and circular splines are a specialty manufacturing process (high-precision tube forming + tooth grinding) that we do not offer. We make the spur / helical / bevel gears that surround the harmonic, plus the housing components.
Can you make plastic gears?+
Yes. Acetal (POM) and PA66 nylon gears are routine — we machine them on the same hobbers as steel gears. For high-volume plastic gears we partner on injection molding.
What is the smallest gear module you cut?+
Module 0.5 is our practical lower bound — below that, tooth geometry becomes ambiguous and inspection error dominates. We have cut module 0.3 on special request.

View source page →Jaw or beam coupling — which is right for my servo?+
For high-precision positioning (encoders, ball-screw drives) use a beam, bellows, or diaphragm coupling — they have zero backlash and high torsional stiffness. A jaw coupling tolerates more misalignment but has small backlash and torsional give.
Do you also stock taper bushings / shrink discs?+
Yes — both have their own product lines. Taper Bushings covers keyed quick-mount TB / QD bushings; Locking Assemblies covers keyless shrink sleeves and shrink discs. Both stock common GB / DIN sizes, plus custom variants.

View source page →When should I use a locking assembly instead of a keyed joint?+
Whenever backlash matters. Locking assemblies eliminate keyway clearance entirely and survive torque reversal without fretting. They also disassemble and reposition — useful in adjustable drives and high-uptime lines. A keyed joint is cheaper to make but trades these benefits for simplicity, and is fine for low-precision, mostly-unidirectional applications.
Do you stock OEM-branded parts (KTR, Ringfeder, etc.)?+
No. We manufacture to the dimensional patterns those brands use — same bore, same taper, same bolt circle — so our parts are interchangeable in equivalent installations. We ship our own Wolfer-marked parts with EN 10204 3.1 material certificates. If you need genuine branded parts under a global supplier agreement, those should be sourced from the brand directly.
What's the typical lead time?+
Standard GB / DIN sizes in stock ship same week from Foshan. Custom variants (non-standard bore, taper, or outer profile) are machined from solid bar in 15–25 days from drawing confirmation.
What torque can a locking assembly transmit?+
Depends on bore size, type, and bolt class. A typical Ø 50 mm shrink sleeve transmits ~3,000 Nm; a Ø 100 mm shrink disc can transmit ~30,000 Nm. Send us your duty cycle (torque, reversal frequency, shock factor) and we'll size the right pattern.
How do I install it correctly?+
Clean the shaft and hub bore (no oil, no grit). Tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence, multiple passes, never single-pass to full torque. Each part lot ships with the printed installation guide. We also have an installation video — ask sales.

View source page →What is the difference between Taper-Lock and QD bushings?+
A Taper-Lock (TB) bushing seats flush and is clamped by set screws — compact, and by far the most common. A QD bushing carries a flange and bolts up from either face, which makes it quicker to release and lets you reverse-mount the wheel. Both transmit torque through a keyway plus the taper grip, so the choice is about access and serviceability, not torque capacity.
Can you supply the pulley or sprocket with the bushing already fitted?+
Yes — we ship bushed V-belt pulleys, timing pulleys and sprockets as a matched set, bored and keyed to your shaft, so the part arrives ready to slide on and tighten. Give us the shaft diameter and keyway, and we handle the rest.
Do you make taper bushings to a non-standard bore or keyway?+
Yes — a non-standard bore, keyway, taper angle or a weld-on hub is machined from solid bar to your drawing, typically in 15–25 days. Send the drawing, or just the shaft and wheel details, and we'll quote it.
Are your bushings interchangeable with branded Taper-Lock / QD parts?+
Yes. We manufacture to the established Taper-Lock and QD dimensional patterns — same taper, same bore series, same bolt circle — so our parts drop into the equivalent installation without reworking the hub. We ship Wolfer-marked parts to those patterns, not OEM-branded ones; if you need genuine branded parts under a supplier agreement, source those from the brand.
What is the typical lead time?+

Two meters in a single piece on our gear grinder. For longer travels we join racks at dowelled pads and grind the assembled face — pitch matching is to ≤ 0.03 mm across the joint.
Helical vs. straight rack — which should I use?+
Helical racks run smoother at speeds above ~ 60 m/min and carry roughly 30% more load per face-width, at the cost of an axial thrust on the pinion bearings. For lower-speed positioning, a straight rack is simpler and slightly cheaper.
Can you supply a matched pinion?+
Yes — we cut the pinion from the same drawing pack as the rack, so flank profile and module are guaranteed to match. The pinion ships with the rack as a set.

View source page →Why choose an integral gear shaft over a separate keyed gear?+
Two reasons: backlash and runout stack. An integral gear has no keyway clearance, so backlash is determined only by tooth-flank tolerance. And the gear pitch diameter is cut concentric to the same centers as the bearing journals, so total runout is the lowest you can get without a flange-mount bearing.
Can you supply a shaft with two different gear modules?+
Yes — we routinely make double-gear shafts where the input pinion is m 1.5 and the output pinion is m 3. Both sections are hobbed and ground after heat treatment in the same setup.
